The Food Basket
The Food Basket (TFB) has served as Hawaiʻi County’s sole food bank since 1989 with warehouses in Kona and Hilo. We aggregate food from local food retailers and farmers, and we distribute food to individuals in need through our network of over 100 non-profit partner agencies. In addition to meeting residents’ immediate food needs, The Food Basket (TFB) is supporting initiatives that strengthen community food systems and improve access to healthy affordable food.
DA BOX CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is our flagship healthy food access program established in 2014. DA BOX CSA works to support local agriculture by serving as a stable wholesale buyer for Hawaiʻi Island farmers. We purchase and aggregate Hawaiʻi grown fruits and vegetables from over 50 farms per year, and we resell their produce to residents as an affordable subscription service with weekly pick up locations throughout the island.
Through DA BOX CSA, The Food basket is advancing our mission to “end hunger” and to lead the creation of an equitable food system that benefits all producers and consumers on Hawaiʻi Island.
